Time of past OR future Camino
I plan to walk the Camino in July 2013
Hi all
Just wondering if I could get some advice. My friends and I are walking from Estella for 5 days this August. We fly into Bilbao on a Tuesday afternoon. I've done some research on what the best way to get from Bilbao airport to Estella is. I've tried to decipher the bus timetable but I'm afraid it's beyond me!!!we fly in at 4.20 in the afternoon and I'm just wondering is it feasible to get to Estella by that evening so that we can get walking the following day? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Mags

OK, as you are already landing close to a Camino, why don't you simply walk from Bilbao direction Santiago? The CF seems to be jammed this year and August tends to be the worst month! So why don't you just stay in the Bilbao albergue and walk from there the next morning? Buen Camino whatever you decide, SY

Hello Marguerite, have you tried the Rome2Rio travel planning site? It's a really good resource: http://www.rome2rio.com/s/Bilbao/Estella-Lizarra

You could take a bus from Bilbao bus station to Logrono and then a local bus or taxi to Estella. Here's the timetable for the buses to Logrono: http://www.autobuseslaunion.com/PDF/Bilbao-Logrono.pdf The Bilbao airport bus will you to the city centre bus station.

Going via Pamplona might also be an option if it fits in better with your flight times http://www.autobuseslaunion.com/PDF/Bilbao-Pamplona.pdf

If you're likely to arrive very late in Estella, you could consider spending a night in Bilbao and taking an early morning bus the next day.

Buen Camino to you all!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi margueritekelly! Welcome to the forum!

You don't state the day of the week you are traveling but you should be able to reach Estella on the day if your flight isn't delayed. Take the 18:00 (17:30 on Sundays) bus from downtown Bilbao to Pamplona (see schedule on the post made by NualaOC) and the 20:30 bus from Pamplona to Estella. You can book the bus from Bilbao to Pamplona on www.movelia.es For info (schedules, fares, ticket purchase...) about the bus from Pamplona to Estella, take a look at www.laestellesa.com

P.S.: There are buses linking the airport with downtown Bilbao every 30 minutes.

Hi Mags
Just wondering how did you get on with the transfer to Estella, we are doing the exact same thing this summer in July. We arrive on aerlingus flight at 4.25pm and were wondering if its possible to make it to Estella on the same day.

thanks

Laura
