Bus from Porto to Santiago, Ourense, Sarria and Lugo

Hello,

We were recently in Porto and came to Galicia to do the last 100km of the Norte (see my Live from the Norte post for details...This and Lugo to Santiago are much nicer routes (as in less crowded) than Sarria to Santiago.

There are three buses a day from Porto to Santiago. Our starting point for the Norte was Bamonde, which you can access by bus (with Arriva) from Lugo. With a bit of investigation on the ALSA site, I discoved a bus that goes from Porto to Lugo. This starts off in Porto (bus station just next to Casa da Musica metro stop) at 12:45 as the second service to Santiago. However, at Valenca, you change into a mini bus which goes to Ourense, Sarria and Lugo. It normally arrives at 8pm at Lugo, but there was no one else on the bus, it went direct to Lugo after dropping off someone in Ourense. We arrived an hour ahead of time. So, if you are in Porto and need to get to Ourense, Sarria or Lugo and don´t wan´t to change at Santiago, this is a useful service. It must work the other way. However, I would recommend booking ahead as the stops seemed to be ón demand´.

I hope people will find this useful.
