I'm all set to leave on April 3, to walk from Zamora on the Sanabres - packing is laid out on a spare bed, Euros are in my shoulder bag, people have been informed, etc.
But I've decided to postpone my trip. Our son has just bought a brand new house and will be moving in April with 2 young kids and a pregnant wife, selling his current townhouse, landscaping, buying appliances, etc. They will be a bit farther from us, but still just 1.5 hours, so that's OK. Anyway, I decided that I wanted to be part of the excitement and hopefully help out.
Once I made the decision, I was quite relieved. I hadn't realized how stressed I was, trying (without success) to finish various work items in the next week. I am now really looking forward to having some unexpected time at home. I have traveled a lot in the past year, and worked too much, considering that I "retired" almost 5 years ago. The work will drop off suddenly in the middle of June, and I'm counting the days till then. Maybe I'll walk the Sanabres in June. (The fall/autumn might not work because the next baby is due at the end of September, so there will be 3 kids under 3
Another bonus is that maybe I can stop walking for 4 weeks or 6 weeks or whatever it takes to heal a soreness on one foot. I might even find time to consult a podiatrist. It is like a tendonitis from the inside arch and toward the top of my foot - not severe pain at all, but it has occurred me that walking hundreds of km might make it worse. D'ya think?
I am feeling rather proud of myself for not minding this change of plans. I am just a bit forlorn about all of my camino things and backpack sitting expectantly on the bed. Maybe I'll leave it all there, ready to go on a moment's notice.
