I shall be bringing some pounds sterling in cash with me and am wondering where´s the best place to change them for euros. Is the exchange rate fixed or can it vary from place to place? Any info would be much appreciated. I´m arriving in Madrid airport and will be traveling to Roncesvalles by bus.

Rather than take all cash it might be worthwhile looking at the post Credit Cards on the Camino for some options

There are ATMs in the airport and bus station in Madrid and in all of the larger towns along the Camino. You will get a much better exchange rate from them than from a currency exchange bureau.

Do the ATMS accept a Natwest Maestro debit card, does anyone know?

You will need to compare the ATM networks listed on the back of your card with the specific ATM you use in Spain, but, yes, there will be ATM's that accept the Natwest Maestro debit card. Here is a sample story on bank charges:

Most interesting article, thank you. I guess they get your money whichever way you play it :roll:

At least I now know my card will work in some ATMS, although I still think I´ll take some pounds cash for emergencies anyway - I´m a belt and braces type of person!

Are your plans going fine?
Only 4 weeks and you´ll start your camino!
We´ve booked all the tickets and hotels for the first two nights.
Maybe we´ll meet on the camino.

Hi Anne,

Yes, my plans (what there are of them) are going fine thanks. I get butterflies every time I think how soon it is all going to start happening :!:
I've got my tickets but not booked any hotels, I want to just play it by ear when I get to Pamplona.

Hope we do manage to meet.
