I came across this article in my reading today. It has some affect on those of us using technology on our camino journeys.

I just followed the yellow arrows. Magnetism doesn't seem to affect them .

I leave the compass at home. Instead, if I really need it, there is one on my phone, an app that is. Personally, as long as I can see where the Sun is, or the stars, a compass is not necessary.
