This family-run hostel has a wonderful garden area to relax in. Dinner and breakfast are provided in a small dining room, lined with paintings apparently done by one of the family.

The welcome I received from the family was warm and hospitable. There was some inner goodness about these people that was very restorative.

At dinner, a lovely young German woman taught us a game involving crossing hands with your neighbour and tapping one hand on the table. One tap meant the next person tapped their hand and so on around the table, faster and faster. Two taps meant the direction reversed. Hard to describe, but I am sure German readers will recognise the game at once!

At breakfast, we had toasted bread as well as the usual condiments, plus a cup of café con leche the size of a dessert plate. It was an uplifting start to the day's walking.

Bob,
Your positive reviews on the places you stayed has assuaged some of the misgivings of where to stay, keep this up as some of the negative comments are dreadful to hear.

I still have a few more reports to make over the next few weeks. But I don't think I had a bad experience at any of the albergues I used. Even the site hut at O'Cebreiro had a certain challenge to it that I appreciated - in retrospect!

Some were positively luxurious, like my single room at San Martin and the home-made liquers served after dinner - and the little white kittens with the bluest eyes I have ever seen.

Sure, fellow travellers snore, some are thoughtless, but they are human foibles - not a fault of the albegrues.

Unfortunately, as the Camino Frances become more popular among ordinary tourists, there will probably be more negativity about conditions.
