They've been trying to push this narrative for a while, but really walking both helps and harms - - most osteoarthritis is from mechanical erosion of one's cartilage, so that more walking will tend to worsen that ; but OTOH, walking strengthens ones muscles, and may if you do it properly reduce body weight, which will both help get better knee support, despite the diminished cartilage.

But the suggestion to just walk, as if treatment were some sort of negative, is a very unhelpful contribution from the news agencies.
