Finnistere to Santander

I am hoping to get all the way to Finistere after Santiago in late May/early June but have no idea how to get back from Finistere to Santander to get a ferry over to England......anyone done this journey please?

That information is also on the Rome2Rio site. Looks like anywhere between about 6 and 13 hours.

I use the ferry from Plymouth to Santander regularly. The bus from Santiago de Compostela usually leaves at 9am and takes around 10 hours to get to Santander which is in good time for the 9.15pm sailing to Plymouth. The first morning bus from Finisterre is around 8am and takes about 2 hours, so you would need to get the bus from Finisterre the day before and spend your last night in Santiago before heading back to Santander. The bus from Finisterre to Santiago is around 10 euros, and the bus from Santiago to Santander is around 50 euros. For both buses you need to get your tickets in advance. At Finisterre you get it in the kiosk opposite the bus stop. In Santiago you get it at the Alsa Bus kiosk in the bus station.

Monbus from Fisterra to Santiago

ALSA bus from Santiago to Santander

Or

Renfe train from Santiago to Santander via Palencia.

Good alternative. Santiago to Leon to Palencia should be easy. Then to Santander, I think several trains a day. Give yourself a day in Santander if possible. Lots to see, great place to walk around and sightsee. Desayuno inglés at El Machi across from ferry port is hearty and a bargain.

Desayuno is the Spanish term for breakfast which is usually continental style with only coffee/tea and a bun. A desayuno Inglés or English breakfast as mentioned above would be a hearty breakfast consisting of coffee/tea, toast/bun and probably eggs. Such an English offering is indeed most appropriate opposite the English ferry terminal!

Another alternative to consider would be
1) Bus from Finisterre to Santiago.
2a) Bus to Lugo (Freire line)
2a) Bus to Ribadeo (Monbus)
or
2b) bus Santiago to Ferrol
Then take the FEVE from Ribadeo (or Ferrol) to Oviedo - three and a half (or seven) hours
FEVE (or bus) Oviedo to Santander. Approx 4 hours.

This is a very slow way back so depends on your timescale and there are only 2 through FEVE trains on each section per day.
It is however a lovely scenic journey and the FEVE itself is cheap, but you do need to stay overnight in some places to do this.
