Just curious if anyone has walked through the area of Leiria lately and if so, what is the status of the fires and damage to structures, the route itself and most importantly, the human toll? Are albergues even open in the area at this time?

Haven't walked the area, but have a friend who lives near there; on alert re possible evacuation.

Here's an English-language story with updates nationally, and some information about the Leiria fire:

Fire update: 2,600 firefighters battling 26 blazes

More than 2,600 firefighters were fighting 26 fires today at 5:30 pm, with the support of almost 800 vehicles and 30 air assets, according to Civil Protection.

Sounds like there are three big fires in that general area; probably, given the last days of the very hot weather, a good area to avoid if at all possible!
