Bus coverage in central Portugal

I just happened to come across this map, when looking at a local bus schedule.

Peregrinos may find it useful, in terms of looking for a schedule for a particular area--which bus service covers it?

Yes. Those are both great services, but they specialize in long-distance buses between major cities--Lisbon, Porto, Faro in the Algarve, and maybe half a dozen of the biggish secondary cities (and Fatima).

The companies that are shown on the map above are the companies that run the municipal networks of buses between small cities/large towns, often having stops in villages along the way. Useful if you have to/want to detour off your walking route for a day or two. And usually they have pretty good/English too websites that allow you to look for all the villages in that region, and see where they connect to, once or twice a day. These are the buses that rural locals use when they have to go to the doctor or whatever in their local large town. Also for market days.

For parts of the country that don't have the regional lines identified here, usually, if you go to the municipal webpage for a large-ish town in the area you want to check out, they will have some sort of a link--usually under "services"--for local transportation, that links to that region's buses.

Ok. On the local bus front.

Here's another useful one.

Seems to cover almost everything north of Tomar, as far north as Viana do Castelo, if I'm interpreting its format correctly.

Excludes the coastal Aveiro area, but links to that district's own little system. And excludes the far northeast.
