Camino Frances from Sarria (Oct 2019)
Hi,

My wife and I will be doing the short trip from Sarria to Santiago, starting on 2nd October. This is our first time on the camino. I am very excited and hoping for a great experience.

We are from Sydney Australia and are in our late 50s. We do a reasonable amount of walking here, so I am not too worried, but several days in a row is the thing that I am concerned about.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I started in Sarria in 2016 and had a great time. Buen Camino!

Hello,

You two will be fine.

The infrastructure is pretty much still up and running.

Do have a splendid time.

Buen camino.

Hi @ozpeacenik
Buen camino. You’ll have a wonderful time. Be prepared for possible rain though.
Go with the flow and don’t push too hard - you’ll find the camaraderie is so good you won’t notice any inclines much.
I see you are from Sydney.
There is a monthly meet up on first Saturday of the month (tomorrow sat 3rd August 2019) attaching link to dates and location).
If you have any questions, get there early (I think by 11.30) to sit in on the special time for newbies.

Buen camino

Yes, come to the Sydney meeting! I’ll be there.

I am 72 and walked the Camino Frances last fall from SJPDP to Santiago in 34 days. I walked every day and had no problems with blisters. Had shin splints in left leg for a few days but that soon worked it's way out. I found none of the trail overly difficult.
Overall, I found the experience wonderful. Going back this year to walk the Rota in Portugal, hooking up with the Camino Portugese.
If you have the time, I suggest starting way before Sarria. For me, the whole complexion of the Camino changed at that point with many more people on the trail wanting to get their Compostella and much more commercialism ... large groups of younsters from schools and church groups bopping along with their music players, trailside stands and shops selling trinkets and generally a more party-like atmosphere.
I'm so glad I started early, getting several weeks of a more genuine experience.

I agree with starting before Sarria. Tricastela makes a great starting point going through Samos and then on to Sarria. It will just give you a better feel of the Camino before getting to the “busy part”. It is not that much further - 2 days extra.

From Sarria the trail is lovely and you will have missed the hard parts. Have a great Camino.

Thanks, everyone for your encouragement. We don't really have enough time to walk further. Also, my wife would not have agreed to a longer walk. Perhaps next time. :)
