Going from Santiago to Sarria Midday

Greetings, and many thanks in advance for your help.

My husband will be meeting me in Sarria to complete the Camino Frances with me and we are trying to expedite his arrival there. His flight gets into Santiago de Compostela 4 May at 10:45, but it appears that there is not a bus to Lugo until 16:00h, and I understand that the direct bus to Sarria does not depart until 18:00h. By chance, does anyone know how he might be able to get to Sarria, or Lugo to Sarria, any earlier--either by another bus, group taxi, or some type of pilgrim shuttle?

We will be joining up at the Hotel Fiz de Vilapedre, and I imagine that he would rather be recovering from his travels from the U.S. there than at the airport (!).

Also, are there any buses that depart directly from the airport to either Sarria or Lugo, or must he go into the city first and then catch a bus from the station there?

In peace, Sarah

Hi Sarah,
My husband did the same thing in 2007 when he met us in Sarria to walk the last 114kms.
He took a taxi - it was around 100 euro. Ivar's Camino Travel Centre might be able to link you with other pilgrims wanting a taxi to Santiago.
Remember that the albergues around Ferreiros (about 14kms from Sarria) won't accept pilgrims who have walked less than 20km. We had to walk to Portomarin the first day.

Sil, I didn't have that problem. I stayed at the very pretty albergue about 6 or 7k before Portomarin & I had only walked from Sarria. I didn't encounter a 20k/day requirement.

Yep - and there is always the South African connection at Casa Banderas in Villacha, about 3kms from Portomarin. If anyone stays there, please say Hi to Gordon Bell from Sil.

Many thanks for your reply. I'll let him know that this is at least an option.

In peace,

Sarah
