Albergaria-a-Velha has, since last week (24 of july), two paths to Santiago de Compostela, with the opening of Caramulo Way - Vouga Valley, which runs through seven municipalities, a distance of about one hundred kilometers.
The new route, which connects the municipalities of Viseu, Viseu, Vouzela, Oliveira de Frades, Sever do Vouga, Agueda and Albergaria-a-Velha, it takes about five days to go and will entroncar with the Main Path, which goes towards Oliveira de Azeméis.
The path is now marked, from the Cathedral of Viseu, where he began the route, to the Main Road in the city of Albergaria, indicating the Hostel Queen D. Teresa, which marks the confluence of the paths. The Albergariense route starts in place of Foz, place name referring to the mouth of the Bad River in Vouga, follows the old line of the channel Vouga Valley, towards Carvoeiro to the west. You can then follow by Mouquim and Valmaior and take the main road or continue to Sernada do Vouga and rise to Albergaria for Azores, a shorter path, but quite steep.
The idea of the Santiago Way Caramulo - Vouga Valley was born four years ago, when the Municipality of Tondela threw down the gauntlet to the municipalities of Vouzela, Oliveira de Frades, Sever do Vouga and Albergaria signaled to the route. The idea was being delayed, but later joined Viseu and Agueda and the path was sanctioned by the Centre for Tourism, officially opening the pilgrims and hikers last Saturday of St. James. In Albergaria-a-Velha, the composteleano route was opened with a walk that brought together about a hundred people.
