Half-Term Camino

Time of past OR future Camino
2018 October?
Hi Everyone,

Am thinking about doing my first camino from Porto to Santiago using the Coastal Route. Could either go in late August for 2 weeks which could be quite hot(I am fair and burn easily!) or at half-term, which last week in October. Obviously, my concern is that going at that time of year, we might have bad weather and/or there might be very few people going at the same time. Has anyone tried going in late October? Are the hostels, etc still open?

The coastal route does not get terribly hot in August as it stays so close to the shoreline. You will have to deal with lots of sunshine though.
 
I walked between Lisbon and Porto late last Oct, there were people even on this route which is less popular. Weather was mostly sunny and warm, even hot on some days, had a drizzle only on a couple of days. After Porto my companion continued along the ocean, the albergues were open at the begining of Nov. There ashould be people on the coastal route even in late season. The weather in Galicia is unpredictable though, you might get into a rainy period in Oct. August is a busy season on the coast, you may rely not only on albergues there, but on the pensions and campings along the ocean as well, Orbitur offred me a special pilgrim price last year.

Other people may be better able to advise about the Coastal route but enough albergues stay open on the Central route to make it practical all year round. And once you have crossed into Spain the albergues run by the Xunta are open all year.
 
Don't mind an occasionally rainy day.. but really don't like it too hot..! Thanks for your reply
