I will be on the Portuguese coastal route from 8th of April for eleven nights. I intend to stay mostly in single rooms in guesthouses on route. I would like to know is a sleeping bag or a sleeping silk sheet necessary on the trip.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Linens are supplied in guest houses and hotels. If you sleep in an albergue, you will be required to have a sleeping bag/sack. Bedding down directly on the mattress is not permitted.

Thanks for that, as it's my first trip I'm learning as I prepare and read the other posts on the forum.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
In September we used the sleep sacks and it was fine. A few times I used albergue blankets though. I wonder if April/May might be cooler.

Every year the temperature is different. I did May 2017 with just a liner, but had a few bad nights due to not being warm enough. If you don't mind risking the odd bad night it could be a good trade off to cut a kilo or so from your pack weight.

He / she isn't talking about sleeping directly on the mattress. They're talking about using a silk sleeping bag liner instead of the full sleeping bag.

Is am having such a hard time with this as well, because it is the unknown as I have not walked the camino before. My husband and I are walking the end of May from SJPDP to Santiago, walking through June to the first week of July. I have a fitted twin bed bug sheet, a silk sleep liner and a lightweight down blanket from Costo. Which combination would be the best? I so want to keep my pack as light as possible but also take care of my 65 year old bones

The liner in any case, a down blanket could be useful if it's cold and you are in a hostel without blankets. The private hostels usually have blankets. Municipal ones less likely. There's no telling how warm it will be when you will be there. Last year was a 40 year high heatwave, but normally it's a bit colder.

I don't know how much your bed bug sheet weighs but I wouldn't bother. It's unlikely to fit the Spanish mattresses and there's not so many bed bugs that time of year anyway. Usually they give you disposable bottom sheets or the mattresses are already covered in plastic.

Hope this helps!

Spring this particular year is rather cold and wet, so it might be colder in the albergues then normal. I walked with a sleeping bag last year in late Apr and was happy about it, although I stayed mostly in the municipal albergues. If you stay in private accommodation you may not need it though as they usually have bed linens and enough blankets.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
What ever liner you wish to carry just spray it with bed bug proof stuff and then put outside on a washing line to air. You won’t want blankets to carry
