hello to everyone

i have a question for vegetarian friends or those who could help!
i have found here some links to vegetarian restaurants, but... being a student... emm you know.
as i am not very good in spanish( at all ) ( english is my 3rd language, so sorry for any mistakes), maybe anyone know is there any hot vegetarian dishes in those small towns and villages along the Camino? ( Frances)

I believe, that it should be at least one... without cow, pig, fish and egg. ( and other animals

maybe you could suggest, (those who know Spanish) what I should look in the meniu for?
and another question.
all soups, I believe, are cooked with meat as well?... aaaaaaa

thanks for any help!!!

vegetál

There are plenty of lovely dishes that suits most vegetarians (lacto-ovo), but if you are vegan I can't help you much...
But I need to "warn" you, that sometimes a salad or a sandwich called "vegetál" can be with tuna fish :? , or other non vegetarian stuff. (Even bacon once!)
Verduras is the word for vegetables (literally green things).

I hope someone more expert in the field will answer you, but you should be ok once you know how to explain what you can and can't eat.

But you must try Pimientos de Padron!

Hi there,

I'm a vegetarian too and you have to be a little caareful in spain as they like to put meat and fish in everything especially vegetable salads and soups.

If you ever get stuck and hungry you can order 'Tortilla Espanola' this is a potato omlette that they have everywhere in spain, it's often out on the bar if you stop for a drink somewhere. I even managed to get it in seafood restaurants where the menu looked entirely fish. Obviously you won't want to eat that every mealtime but you'll be safe with that as it's vegetarian and you can pretty much get it anywhere.

Have a great camino!

But even that won't work if you dont eat eggs.

You can choose a salad, too, it's very normal to find it. In Galicia, I recommend you to order the "Caldo Gallego".

If you see nothing available for your diet you can ask to change any meal from the menu for a vegetarian food, you possibly will not find any problem.

Buen Camino,

Oooh, bad news. As a vegetarian who has walked CF and VDLP, I can tell you that it is very challenging. It requires some effort (and at least a basic command of Spanish). I dearly love lentil dishes, and of course found out that the wonderful lentejas dish is made from beef stock (with chunks of jamon). I must confess that on more than one occasion I had to eat it - there was nothing else and insalata mixta and tortilla I had up to here! I really did get quite weak, and I knew I had to have more protein than I could get in cheese, tuna, etc. I did what I thought I would never do - eat a dish after picking out the pieces of meat (because of course they had touched the food I was eating!). So, the good news is: yes you can be a vegetarian and get by on the camino. The bad news is: you might have to sacrifice (temporarily) some of your long-held values regarding animals in your food. I did what I had to do to get my protein without overdosing on tuna....., but I never actually ATE animal flesh. That was my rationale. Might not work for anyone else...

Peace.
