Is it possible for a woman to cycle alone from Lisbon?

Hi

I would love to cycle the Camino from Lisbon but I am worried for a few reasons:

- That I will get lost
- The rental bike not being in perfect condition and something going wrong (I won't be able to fix anything other than a puncture). I would feel safe on my bike but it is not practical to bring my bike from South Africa....
- That it is dangerous
- Something goes wrong and there are not many people on that route.

What is the route like from Lisbon?

The Portugues route seems easier and more scenic and I love Lisbon...

Will it be better to start in Porto?

What are the quality of the rental bikes like? I cycle with a full suspension Giant. I don't even know if I can cycle with an oldish bike with the extra weight of the panniers.

Apologies for the panic....

Regards

Ell

Practice with panniers before you start. Too many trips end with a crash on the first day or so.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
My fabulous friend Nadia flew with her bike in a box from UK to Lisbon. She assembled her bike in her hotel room and then cycled, mostly on her own, to the Baltic coast of Estonia, some 6000 kilometres. So yes, you can.
