Journaling: Writing Down Your Camino

Have you gotten your journal for your Camino yet?

Our journals, when we speak our truth in them, are homes for our journeys – where we started, where we ended our days, the number of kilometers walked, and the length of time spent on the Way – and a place for our descriptions of the people, the events, the sights and sounds of the Camino. They are homes for questions we purposefully ask ourselves and for those treasured, unbidden revelations that come to us when we least expect it. They describe our outward journey and our journey within as we soak up the magic of what it means to walk on the Camino. So write down your Camino. Let your journal be a resting place for your wild and beautiful soul.

THE PILGRIM SOUL: Your Journal for the Camino de Santiago Paperback by Susan Thompson is available through Amazon.com at http://www.amazon.com/dp/0692323201/?tag=casaivar02-20...

This journal has been developed for you to record your journey, your pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago. It waits for you to breathe life into its pages with your words, your drawings, your sellos, photographs and other mementos from the Camino.

Three pages are set aside for each day on your Camino. The first page provides areas to record the date and the locations where you start and end each day, as well as a place for a drawing, a photograph, or duplicate sellos/stamps. Two additional pages are supplied for journaling or additional sellos.

Quotes are provided throughout the book that track the progress of your pilgrimage -- from hearing the call and beginning the journey; to being present to the landscape, other pilgrims, and your awakenings, challenges and joys as you journey; to arriving at Santiago and understanding that arriving is followed by new beginnings.

As you author this journal, you are invited to open your heart; feel the spirit of those whose feet shaped the paths you walk; experience the communitas of fellow pilgrims; and welcome the life force of new cultures. What is your experience of leaving home; of being a wanderer in another's land; of sharing the Way with others; of risking all that you are for something that you are yet to become? What is that something greater in you that these pages can illuminate?

May you delight in describing your days, discovering new perspectives, and finding a resting place for your pilgrim soul as you fill this journal of your days on the Camino. Buen Camino to you!

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions"

I have started with the best of intentions, on long trips abroad, many a journal.

All remain unfinished.
Oh how wonderful! I am not the only one. I take time to pick out a journal for each camino, write in it for the first few days and then...nothing. I just get lost in the experience of the moment. In a way it marks the transition from the outside world into my inner self exploration and solitude. I do enjoy reading other people's blogs after the Camino and I am often amazed at the talented writers that are able to put their experience in writing.

Couldn't agree with you more Laura and Bystander. I have been working on my "book" for three years and then I read someone's blog like Rebekah Scott's and I put my pen away.

Me too! Yet somehow my Camino last Sept was different - I actually enjoyed writing my journal EVERY DAY!!!!!

My secret was simple - around 4pm I would go to a bar and order a beer. In 5 mins, the words were flowing effortlessly. I'd write for 10 mins or so, covering 2 or 3 pages, then start to feel a little too relaxed.
