Leaving Porto 4th or 5th of October 2017

Hi all, completed my first Camino last year having walked the Frances. Meeting up around the 2nd October with some friends made on that who are 2/3 days into Portuguese now. They have been saying they have struggling to get accommodation and having to get Taxis upto 10ks to get beds. This is not what I want to hear. They are in a group of 5 which may not help. Some are Americans who like to prebook everywhere, Yuk.
So having met up with them back in Porto for a couple days of hellos and the odd beer or two me and another Late 50's German friend intend to head out of Porto on either the 4th or 5th starting along the Coastal Route.

Anyone else heading out about that time or dispell this news that it's a struggle to find a bed?

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Only 1,136 of the Pilgrims receiving compostelas last month were from the U.S. Most walk the Camino Frances, so I doubt they were the source of your problem on the Camino Portugues.
Point taken Falcon, but I walked with some last year who would phone and book 2 different places depending on where they got to and just 'No show' at one of them.

They are also sayvthat accomadation is double what they had to pay in Camino Frances last year. €18-25 a night? Is this right or is it just because they are a popular part of Coast.

On got attacked by 2 dogs so they have not a great start!!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Yikes! Okay, @Scarlet Fez, I am going to venture the guess that trying to "book" five beds is what is causing them issues. You are going to have a wonderful time, no matter what you do, so take a deep breath. Are you going to try to walk and be bed #6 with these amigos? Also, despite their difficulties, they are getting beds eventually---right? I would certainly budget accordingly or carry that plastic (those plastic) credit card (s) on the off chance you need more money.

No one can ever tell you exactly "how" it's all going to be :)

I can tell you it will be interesting, though!

Best of luck. By the way, I love your forum name.

Debrita, thanks for that I probably never made myself clear in my post. The Group of 5 are on their way already. Once they have finished they are returning to Porto for a few days where we will spend some time with them before 2 of us head off on our own adventure. Like like last year I will go with the flow and stop where the moment takes us. The best and most interesting evenings on my Camino France's last year were places we had no intention of stopping but circumstances influenced our stopping points and a great craic was had.
Buen Camino
