Chartres has what must be the most beautiful and elaborate version of this kind of light display every spring/summer. For a few days they do many of the other historic sites and bridges as well. Very lovely, although I was afraid it would be a bit Disney. It isn't, at all.

Of course, they're also restoring the medieval painted and marbled finishes to the interior of the cathedral, and that's far more controversial.
