Nervous Anticipation

Hello Fellow Pilgrims:

Just 48 hours to go and I am off. I fly from Chicago USA to Paris on Saturday, and tragically have to spend the day in museums in Paris before flying to Bayonne in the evening. After a Monday (13th) train to SJPD I should be taking my first steps around noon that day. I go with an open heart and mind and a spirit ready to be impacted in ways I cannot predict. As for the body, intend to honor its strength and its limits, and pace myself, but I know many a pilgrim has mis-calculated what they are capable of. If any of you are likely to overlap any portion with me, look for a beard-stubble guy with a beige Canadian "Tilly" i.e. broad brimmed hat. I will probably also be singing, so keep those ear plugs handy  .

Blessings to all,

Bill

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Bill, Hope you have a wonderful time. Just one tip regarding your Tilley hat. They are great, I took one too and loved the coverage it gave me from the front and sides. But I did find I had to safety pin it up at the back of my head, because it hit on my backpack and shifted about a bit. Your backpack may not be as high as mine, but test it out and see if you need to have a safety pin at the ready. BUEN Camino.

Bill, it makes me laugh just reading your post. I can feel the anticipation and I am envious that I can't join you at this time. I know it will be difficult forcing yourself to see a few museums in Paris before you off to Bayonne. Force yourself to do it, but don't sing loudly while walking there; they get annoyed with that type of thing at the Louvre. However, when you begin crossing the bridge in SJPP, lift your voice so that we can all hear you begin your first steps. I know of few things that can touch the soul so quickly as good music. Please keep us posted during your Camino.

Buen Camino and may the wind always be at your back. God speed.

What a wonderful post, so well said. I am two months away from starting and really wondering what I am getting myself into. I plan to print off your post so that everytime I get cold feet, I can read it for encouragement.

Have a wonderful camino, from a fellow Canuck.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Bill, I am going into the same mode as you do: I will be 6 weeks behind you

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
A Big Thanks:

Thank you to all who have supported this possibility, and especially the words of encouragement offered by the recent postings. I take your excitement and blessings with me, and will send good Camino energy back your way.

Gratefully,

Bill

Buen Camion Bill,

Know, The light of God surrounds you, the Love of God enfolds you, the Power of God protects you and the Presence of God watches over you. Wherever you are, God is and all is well.
