Hi,

There are two new, English Guides of the Vézelay route, from Vézelay to St. Jean-Pied-de-Port: one Guide of the variant via Bourges and one of the variant via Nevers. The Guides are published by the Dutch Association of Saint James. They are available as of now and cost € 27,50 (this includes added value tax and the costs of international shipping). The Guides contain detailed route information as well as route maps (in colour), height profiles, and detailed information about accommodation. Chassain was an incredible guide. If these guides follow her tradition, they will be the best guides available (and the only ones in English). One of the best parts of the Vezelay route was the accommodations with volunteers who host pilgrims through local associations.

We were originally planning to do the Via Francigena starting from Canterbury, but in reading the route across northern France, discovered the Vezelay route south. Now have two questions; first the two guides, one through Bourges and the other through Nevers, is there a preference among Pilgrims? Why one over the other? Second question, some maps show the route direct to St. Jean PdeP, others show it going on to San Sebastian, where does it split, or is it two different routes totally? I started the C. Frances in St. Jean and ended there coming from Geneva/Le Puy.

Last year I walked with the original Dutch version of the guide. Worked very good for me.
