Your question is a bit puzzling. It is not a case of "either/or". Stamps can be obtained at thousands of places, every one of a different design. At a few places, people will draw one. (The stamps go in your credential, not in your national passport.)

Perhaps you are thinking of the albergue at the church in Granon. They do not, three years ago, use a regular sello. It is handwritten in your credential.

Most times Granon does not even give a handwritten sello. You must of got a hospitalero willing to do it. "We are not an albergue" they say. You can get one at the bar though.

Elaine, you could always ask the hospitelero to drew something then date it. Though some may want to put the 'official' stamp on also!

As hospitaleros at Granon parish albergue we were given this explanation of their unique policy to not give a physical stamp for pilgrim credentials . Instead of the souvenir in your pilgrim passport, they want to offer a 'stamp that cannot be so easily lost or forgotten ... a stamp on your heart'. For those pilgrims who able open themselves and join in all that Granon offers, that is what many carry away from the experience. Depending on your definition, it might be best or the worst stop on the Camino. I loved our two weeks there.
