Pre-Booking accommodation from Tui to Santiago - Is this necessary?

Hi
I'll be doing the last stretch of the Portuguese Camino beginning of July this year - just wondering if we need to book all our accommodation before we go or is it ok to book a day in advance, or just arrive somewhere and hope for the best?! We will book the first stop in Tui and the last stop in Santiago. We would like to stay in pensions or guest houses instead of the albergues as we are both light sleepers ... Is there much accommodation in the smaller towns along this stretch between Pontevedra, Caldas de Reis, Padron etc ?

Also, is it possible to just walk from O Porrino to Santiago and still get the Compostela, as it is just over the 100K or would we need to start from Tui?

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
There are plenty of pensions in Caldas de Reis. Ideas Peregrina in Tui has a twin room and is very central. Pontevedra is big and has plenty of options, we are looking at Pension Ruas for this year. Dont miss the hot springs in Caldas de Reis and the bridge in Arcade is fab. Catherine (Wexford)
 
That should be hotel ruas. We walked last June without prebooking and also did three days in October with a bigger group and were able to book a day in advance.

Thanks Catherine for great tips - I've booked Tui and Caldas de Reis, but will leave the rest open for more spontaneity ... it makes the journey more of an adventure!

My wife and I walked the CP from Tui to Santiago. We booked all of our accommodations through booking.com several months in advance However you can book through Trip Advisor,Expedia, Hotels.com or Airbnb. We chose booking for their convenient free cancellation policies. Prices were reasonable. We chose hotels,hostales for the same reason as you. Here’s where we stayed:
-Tui- Hostal,Cervecería San Telmo (50€)
-Porriño -Hotel Internacional (60€)
-Redondela -
Apartamentos Descansiño (75€) 3 bd apt. There were four of us. Very comfortable. Washing machine, etc. 34 666 260 651
- Pontevedra
- Hotel Ruas (50€)
-Caldas de Reis- Hotel Balneario Acuña (75€)
-Padron Os Lambrans(80€) Aldea de Lamas, 81, 15910 ( locates about 2k off the Camino but the hostess Margarita will pick you up and drop you off. Nice country estate for a peaceful rest before your ascent into Santiago.

Some were better than others, but we never had to worry about a room since we booked ahead. You can read up on them or look for comparable accommodations.

It’s great to have names of hostales in advance. I have booked a few in ahead but liked the idea of just turning up somewhere or deciding to stop at a moments notice if we like a particular place. I like the feeling of spontaneity.

But perhaps having some more places booked is a good idea. I will check them out! Thanks for your help.
