Precautions on the N120 out of La Virgen del Camino

Planning to walk 2016 or 2017
Starting my walk this morning. A bit apprehensive about walking along the N120 to Villadangos del Paramo with all the traffic. What precautions can I take to be safe? I presume I must walk on the left facing oncoming traffic? Do I walk on the actual main road asphalt or is there a path along side it? Mazarife is not an option as I have prebooked Villadangos.

@Nazare don't worry - there is a path alongside the road. Just follow the Camino signs and yellow arrows. They take you along a smaller side road at first and then onto a gravel path parallel to the N120. You're not walking on the main carriageway at any stage.

Buen Camino!

No, no, don't worry! There is nothing dangerous about the walk - tedious as can be, but not dangerous. As mentioned, there is a good path parallel to the road.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

There are buses along the route if the traffic gets to be too much for you. They are not real frequent! A bar may be able to give you the times at the nearby bus stop. You can get to Villadangas, San Martin, Hospital, and Astorga.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Definitely tedious. Also a real pain if walking the other way as only one person wide most of time walking parallel to the N120. (I know I did it this June)

Actually, I recommend that everyone picke up a really light weight high visibility vest of some type. The larger towns should have them.

Spanish law requires them at dawn & dusk.
Common sense requires them any time you are on any road with traffic.
If you haven't left home yet..consider finding the lightest one you can find.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Does anyone know the mass times at the parish church in Villadangos del Paramo?

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
