The BBC uk reported that sadly the German national was heat related. No info on the other.I've recently read on the forum of two deaths. One was a German man and the other a man from Brazil. I was wondering if anyone knows if either of these unfortunate deaths were related to the recent heat waves.
This happened near Izco. I wonder whether this is where the Brazilian man had intended to stop, but was forced to continue because the albergue was closed? Am doing the same route next week, very conscious that accommodaton on the ARagones cannot be taken for granted - and that distances can be long for elderly or those not so fit.
The reports of the death of the German pilgrim on the Via de la Plata at the weekend also make the point that the albergue at the Alcantara reservoir was closed and the pilgrim had been walking a further 11km to Canaveral. A very long day in a remote area without water most of the way and very little shade. These less popular routes can be very different from the Camino Frances and far more demanding - something not always fully understood.
Terrible news. If heat related it stresses the point to stay well hydrated. Carry those water bottles Camino friends!!!I've recently read on the forum of two deaths.
