Recommended stop over Paris to Bayonne?

Time of past OR future Camino
Next - 2025
I'm from Australia and am flying into Paris, where ill spend afew days before getting train to Bayonne. I'd like a day/night somewhere along that route just to experience a bit more of France. Any recommendations? Maybe Bordeaux?? THANKYOU : )

Yes Bordeaux is worth a stop and it's an easy stop en route. A big city feel but easy to navigate, and quick access to start your hike.

Being an Aussie I'd say head for Biarritz cobber. Swimming/surfing at great Beaches, great town and coastline for wandering, it's a local bus ride from airport or train station, 1/2hr (again by local bus) to Bayonne rail station where train leaves from for SJPDP.

Hi Jenny,
Not sure if you want to break the travel mid-way or just spend an extra day in France anywhere.
I found Bayonne itself interesting for a day, also SJPP is a beautiful place to spend an extra full day and night and of course there is Paris, which of course has much to see.
Buen Camino

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
While in Bayonne, you can hop the local bus and spend a few hours in Biarritz. The two are really one continuous urbanized area, but each has its own feel.

Last night I organized my train ticket from Paris to Bayonne and have somewhere to stay so

I did a print at home ticket... so I hope it will be ok.... it sets rules making a good copy of ticket... I LOVE trip planning

Hi Annie & Jen. I too have booked my train ticket (and printed it out at home) from Paris to Bayonne on Sunday 22nd September and will stay the night there before catching the train to SJPDP on Monday. Not sure what will be open in Bayonne on a Sunday. Very excited as departure day draws closer. Only concern is not speaking the language. Looking forward to seeing a few Aussies on the walk.
