Safety on the Camino Frances

Hi everyone. My friend and I are hoping to do the Camino Frances in June this year, and we were worrying a little about how safe we will be. For reference, we are both girls and college age.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks and have a great day!

Your biggest danger will be the middle aged lotharios who think they are twenty again! They may be irritating, but they are harmless. As for robbery or assault, it is very rare in Spain. There are one or two reports annually about flashers, but there seems to be little danger from them. Just be prudent, and you will be fine.

The Camino is safe. The few incidents that there have been have usually involved populated areas, alcohol and bad judgement. Burn Camino!

The Camino is no more safe or unsafe than anywhere else, as I've said in a previous discussion on safety on the Camino. You could step off a pavement at home and smash your ankle as happened to a 21 year old friend of mine. Life is for living so don't hang around asking yes but what if? Just follow your path both on and off the Camino and don't procrastinate!

You will be safe as houses. Met a girl who was a bit worried about walking in the early morning dark and asked if she could walk with us then the sun came up and she was away. Met her a few times and she told me that if she got worried there was always someone to offer their company. Biggest danger might be the odd pretend pilgrim with a sad story to get some money out of you. Completely harmless and just move on to the next pilgrim if you walk away. In my case in 2013 he was a German and from what I hear, he was still around last year. Met an 18 yr old college girl from Bavaria who was worried about exam results so walked the camino on her own to take her mind of it. I could go on listing the girls and women I met on their own, suffice to say, none had any problems safety wise. So put your mind at ease and go enjoy yourselves

You'll run into a few creepers who want to discuss your sexiness while you're on the Camino - the same percentage you meet every day who feel entitled to point that out to you as you go about your life. But I never saw or heard of a single threatening moment. I have heard of a few money scams in bars in the bigger towns.
I don't know how familiar you are with Spain or Europe in general - but just be very aware of your belongings. It seems to me that pickpockets and small cons tend to be directed more toward the young. Don't give change to people hanging around ATMs who need you to change a bill for them - don't offer to help someone who has found a "wedding ring" but who belongs to a religion that won't allow them to keep it. Keep your passport/money/cash cards on you at all times in a guarded area. Even in the shower.
