San Anton from Madrid??

Time of past OR future Camino
2006 to date: Over 21 Caminos. See signature line
I just realized I have a ticket from Santiago to Madrid on June 1.
I arrive at Madrid airport at 8 am.

I need to get to San Anton as I start my hospitalera stint on June 1.
Is there a way to get there from Madrid or would I be better off yo get there directly from Santiago and just blow off my flight??

Thanks for any help you can give

I'd suggest Santiago to Burgos to Castrojeriz by bus and then walk 2 km to San Anton. See www.Rome2Rio.com for more possibilities.

The critical factor is the bus from Burgos to Castrojerez with Autobuses Amaya. The bus leaves Burgos at 1730.

The only other option it to get to Fromista in time to catch the morning bus to Burgos ... not gonna happen.

So the object of the exercise is to figure out the most cost effective and convenient way to get from Santiago to Burgos.

ALSA operates buses from Madrid to Burgos ... 3 hours ... but first available is 10h45. The bus gets there 1315 ... giving you four hours of slack ... not really enough to go gadding about in downtown Burgos.

Renfe train from Santiago to Burgos ... leaves 0832 arrives 1506 -- 6h32 travel time with the slight inconvenience of getting from train to bus.

I don't know if you can get the flight costs back ... but in terms of convenience ... in my opinion its train from Santiago to Burgos and bus from Burgos to Castrojerez. Walk or taxi from Castrojerez to Monasterio de San Anton.

Just wondered if it might be any quicker via Madrid since I already had a flight.

To go via Madrid won't be quicker but will be cheaper (unless you could get the money of your ticket back, i.e.) and will allow you to have more rest time when changing transport. In addition to the already quoted option of bus from Madrid to Burgos plus bus from Burgos to Castrojeriz, you have another option (see below).

There's a third option: To take the direct bus from Madrid to Castrojeriz with www.lasepulvedana.es It departs at 14:15 (from Moncloa) and arrives to Castrojeriz just 50 minutes later than the Autobuses Amaya bus from Burgos. And you would have a full morning to enjoy Madrid...

Thank you! I cannot get a refund so this sounds great!

I'm shure you know Anne that the owners of the albergue will take you from town to San Anton ........... who knows who will pitch up to help you for a few days.

A direct bus from Madrid to Castrojeriz... what a revelation!

...and it runs daily, even on week-ends! Departure times from Madrid vary depending on the day of the week though (so check the web of La Sepulvedana to know the departure time on any specific travel date).

Not sure who to call but I may have it here in the attachments from Reb.

Can someone tell me how to get to Moncloa from Atocha?

Metro might be the best option. Line 1 from Atocha Renfe to Vodafone Sol. And Line 3 from Vodafone Sol to Moncloa. Note: Vodafone Sol is the metro station traditionally (i.e.: before Vodafone paid to get it branded) known as Sol.

P.S.: If you want to go straight from the Airport to Moncloa, take metro line 8 from the airport to Nuevos Ministerios and metro line 6 from Nuevos Ministerios to Moncloa.

Is it a metro stop? A bus station???

Both of them. Take a look at the link provided by whariwharangi above.
Take a look at www.lasepulvedana.es/puntos-venta.php to get a rough idea of where's the ticket desk and from where departs the bus (check it at the ticket desk, ask for the specific dársena and for directions to get there).

Atocha Renfe on Metro line 1 to Callao

Line 1 doesn't pass through Callao. Vodafone Sol is the metro stop/station where she has to change.

My error. I have corrected my post. Thanks.
