Hola
I think you can also get there by the FEVE train,(it's a narrow gauage railway and goes all the way from Bilbao to Ferrol] its quite slow but a nice journey and I thinks runs twice a day from Santander to Oviedo, every day at 9.10 arrives 13.39 and 16.10 and arrives 20.39, I think the website is http://www.feve.es.

you can get direct from Santander to Oviedo direct on the FEVE. Narrow gauge railway along the coast. It rattles and clatters a bit but we think it great fun - it is certainly a beautiful ride and you get to see something of the Camino del Norte as well. I think that there are two trains a day and it takes something over 4 hours. Check it out here:- http://www.feve.es/es/

Blessings on your plans!

In our experience of travelling to and from Santander, by train (Feve) and by coach, we found the coaches quicker. The Feve is a rural winding railway system stopping at many little places, the coaches zoom along on the motorways and stop only in big towns.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
just to endorse Bridget and Peter's recommendation of the coach.
In mid-September (2011) I travelled from Santander by bus to Villaviciosa on a Sunday. There were three or four buses going there that day and others connecting to bigger places like Oviedo. We changed once at Llanes. I think the whole trip took about 4 hours. We saw a couple of people stash their touring bikes and gear in one of the stowage compartments.
The bus station in Santander is easy to find and negotiate and the Alsa ticketing staff were very friendly and helpful

We are arriving in Madrid on May 5th. I went online today to purchase train tickets to Oviedo and it doesn't show any train service. Does that mean the trains are sold out? Or maybe some other...
Hi, has anyone walked the Primitivo in mid-October? What was it like? Weather, tracks and accommodation? I plan to walk from Oviedo to Lugo only, then bus to Santiago after. Thanks for your input.
