Santiago Airport Bus

When we travelled from the city centre to the airport at the end of our last Camino we walked to the main bus station to catch the bus. This time I am staying at Albergue The Last Stamp in the city and was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a bus route through town. Walking to the bus station doesn't bother me (I'm even considering walking to the airport. What difference does a few extra kms make) but if I could catch it closer to where I'm staying would be better. Thanks for any information.

Praza de Galicia is very central and closer to your albergue.

The bus starts from Plaza de Galicia every 30 minutes, starting at 06:00. Along the way, it stops at the train station, the main bus station, and at several places on the route out to the airport. There is a schedule posted at the Plaza de Galicia and train station stops. The total ride from Plaza de Galicia is about 45 minutes.

Interestingly, the last stop before turning into the airport is immediately in front of Hotel Garcas. This is where I stay when I walk INTO Santiago on the Frances. But, it is an excellent choice to stay near the airport the night before a very early departure.

The one-way fare is (as of May 2017) €3 one-way regardless of where you get on. I have ridden this bus from both the Plaza de Galicia and the train station and it is great.

By comparison, the flat taxi fare from the old city to the airport is €21. If you share a taxi with two or three others, this is not too bad. There are taxi stands at Plaza de Galicia, just beyond the airport bus stop; in front of the train station, and; in the city, at Rua de San Francisco, about 100 meters north of Plaza Obradoiro.

Because we had an early flight, we stayed at the albergue in Lavacolla (reservas@alberguelavacolla.com). The hospitaleros make several trips daily to the airport free of charge. (They refused my insistence to at least pay for the gas!) It is literally a 3 minute drive. I highly recommend staying there. The airport bus stops right in front of the albergue - which leads us back to your original question of how to get from where you are to the closest bus stop, so I don't know if this info is of use to you. Maybe it will help someone else?

And the ticket price is three euros... most affordable unlike other countries where they up prices for airport bus transport.

Just as an FYI, Hotel Garcas (mentioned in my earlier post) is so close to the airport terminal, I walked it one year. It took about 15 minutes...maximum.

You exit the hotel, turn right and walk. Once you get to the roundabout, about 20o meters up, turn right. You can see the terminal. There are paved walking paths from there. It beats ordering up a taxi or waiting for a packed bus, the one from Plaza Galicia.
