Santiago recommendation

On our last day in Santiago we bumped into some locals who recommended that we go to Casa Manolo for dinner. We are so glad we listened to them. As it was a pilgrim's menu we were expecting pasta for first plate, egg and chips for second and a small yoghurt for dessert! In reality the options were much more varied and the quality was excellent. The quantity was excessive for someone who had not walked far that day, but we enjoyed what we could manage to eat.
I would highly recommend you planning at least one meal there! You can book - and it is advisable.
It's not difficult to find....if you are on the pilgrim route you will come to Plaza de Cervantes before you get to the cathedral. It's tucked in the corner of that square - look for the white and black sign outside. http://www.casamanolo.es
Of course you need to make sure you have the Santiago Tart for dessert!

Casa Manolo is famous and used to be in the Confraternity Guide. Is it still?
My favorite places are right across the street from each other on Rua da Atalaia. ( a quiet street 5 mins from the cathedral ) Pension Girasol has a simple modern interior with equally simple well prepared traditional foods. The owner is wonderful and the place attracts a lot of locals. The same can be said of Casa Felisa. The setting here is their magnificent garden with all the tables tucked into the foliage. Really special in a city of stone. The food is more complicated and pricier but equally as good. This too is patronized by locals with an emphasis on big groups for special occasions.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
