I need to travel from Santiago to Porto to catch a noon flight to the US in mid-July. Is the train the best option? And it looks like I should travel the day before so that it's easy to catch the flight. Any other suggestions if I have an afternoon in Porto the day before?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The simplest and quickest way is probably a direct journey by Flixbus from Santiago to Porto. Takes about three and a half hours.
Thanks! I just booked it. I'll stay overnight and head to the airport! Any suggestions for an evening in Porto?

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Opposite the Douro river is Vila Nova da Gaia.
walk over the famous Dom Pedro II arched bridge and turn to the right were are the famous Portwine houses like a.o. Sandman and Cruz
Go inside Cruz and take the lift to the upper floor where is a terrace overviewing Porto, de river and the bridge and order a cool glass of white portwine and a snack .

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

The deluxe bus (not that much more expensive than the regular) is a delight. If you allow yourself a day to explore Porto, it's amazing. Walking through the medieval community on the side of the river was an education in itself, as well as the museum of exploration.
