So how bad is it in August?

Hi there,
I'm all set to walk the camino frances from early august onwards and all I've found on-line are warnings saying not to. Its too hot, its too crowded, etc. The heat I dont mind. I am planning on packing a verry simple light tent and sleeping bag.
So, what does 'crowded' mean, and would camping help me at all.
Has anyone had a good time in august? If so please let me know, as this would really perk me up.
Many thanks
Gareth

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I had a great time in August, but that was over ten years ago, and there were far fewer pilgrims then than now.

"Crowded" means it can sometimes be hard to get sleeping space, but if you're taking that tent you should be fine, if it's not too heavy

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
