Stamp in Porto Cathedral

Hi all, does anyone know what the drill is with getting a stamp in Porto at the beginning of the journey? Is there an office there?
I'm fairly confident in the smaller towns about getting the stamp. Just seems a bit daunting in the big smoke

Hi, Alan,
It is easy. Enter the Cathedral and, to the right, there is an information desk. They will be happy to stamp your crecencial. I hope your walk is as wonderful as ours was.

Hi Alan. We had our credencials stamped in the Cathedral. Bom Caminho

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Thanks both. Don't know why the stamp was causing concern. 2 weeks to go and still loads to do. (still at work!) Can't wait for the walking to start

We did the Portugues in 2009 from Porto and got our credencial in Porto and our first stamp. What the peregrino office in Santiago wants to see is that you got stamps that state the name of the place and that the date is written in. They are not too picky about where the stamps are from. You can go into bars, hotels, restaurants, post offices, police stations, municipal offices and even gas stations to get stamps (and of course churches and albergues). On the French route, everyone on the route had a stamp. On the other routes, they are less frequent and so bars and restaurants might not have one, but all public offices will have something and they will all know about peregrinos. What you are looking for is called a 'sello'. So you might see a bar or cafe with 'tenemos sello' outside of it. If you walk into a municial office, police station or post office and show the person at the desk your credencial and ask for a 'sello' they will know what you want.

There is even a website out there where someone asks people to send in their sellos from the various caminos.

Buen Camino

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Even though the Cathedral is open, that does not mean the visitor desk is open. My husband discovered this when he went back to have his credential stamped in the late afternoon. The rest of us had had ours stamped earlier in the day--he had forgotten to bring his. The stamp/sello was locked up so that was that.
