If there isn't a ritual now, then start one.WILLC said:I have heard that there is a tradition/ritual around starting a Camino from Ireland at St James's gate in Dublin. Something about a pint of Guiness. Can anyone fill me in on this.

Joxer said:Margaret and Aidan, thanks for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated.
I'll start with the Camino Frances from St. Jean Pied de Port.
Aidan you doing it with a group? I'll probably do it around the same time as yourself. Is it common to do the camino solo? Probably with the numbers doing it you're always bound to meet up and get to know a few??
Regards.
Hey Joxer,
I am beginning the Camino alone and look forward to meeting new people along the way, I feel that is a big part of the experience. As far as I am aware it is very common to do the Camino solo....its a very personal powerful journey I believe and I really feel it will be that way for me!
I am looking forward to the journey but I will probably be a bit nervous when the time comes.. but I am sure that will pass quickly enough when I get going.
Booked into a hostel in St Jean on the first night.
Great you are going to make the journey too, maybe I will see you there!
Best of luck with your planning

Hi Joxer,
Welcome to the Forum!
Although there are many caminos which lead to Santiago de Compostela many pilgrims first walk the Camino Frances. There is no official starting point for the CF but pilgrims start at or near the French/Spanish border either in Saint Jean Pied de Port, France or Roncevalles, Spain.
For fellow Forum members tips on getting to the camino see these Forum topics >> traveling-to-from-the-camino/ and in particular for travel from Dublin see >>

Happy planning and Buen Camino,
Margaret Meredith

Hi AML'Hi Jo,
I don't leave for St Jean until 18 Sept, so looks like you will be well on your Way by then. Hope you have a wonderful first Camino experience. Have you a return date or just seeing how it all flows??
I have heard that there is a tradition/ritual around starting a Camino from Ireland at St James's gate in Dublin.
