Starting the Camino this week.

Hey All,

Despite the bad weather, have decided to start the Camino this week, either form Roncesvalles or Saint Jean, depending on weather. I have experience in snow and the mountains in bad weather and hope this will serve for the trip. I saw at least a couple people debating whether or not to start the camino this week: if you've decided to go for it, drop me a line, would love to meet up! ( they say that misery loves company )

Hasta luego,
Jeff

Best of luck, Jeff,
Be careful! Stay warm and dry and I'll bet you get the most fantastic photos! Let us know how you are getting on and if you get a chance to stay in Moratinos with Rebekah and Paddy, say hello to them for me!
Buen (snowy) Camino,

I wish you clear skies, no snow, no rain and dry paths. It will be cold.
I read a blog recently where the pilgrims put their sock liners on, then plastic bags, then woolen socks before putting their boots on. They reported that their feet stayed dry and warm.
They also put folded newspaper between their shirts and jackets when walking into the wind.
Just to be on the safe side - take your cell phone. 112 is the Europe-wide emergency number. It works even if you have no money in a pre-paid mobile phone or even if your supplier has no network. It works 24/7 365 days - and the operators speak many languages. The number for the Guardia Civil in Spain is 062.
Use two sticks. Under the snow could be river boulders, crushed rocks, gravel and pebbles. Difficult enough in fine weather but dangerous in snow or sludge.
Buen suerte!

And as the snow thaws and the temperatures hover around freezing, be extra careful of the ice. I fell twice today, right out on the main street. And we met a pilgrim in Leon this afternoon who had to pack it in after a bad fall left her with a broken wrist.
