Storing luggage in Madrid?

I'll be walking the Northern Route for the month of July. I need to go to a professional conference in London right after my time on the Camino, which, unfortunately, I won't have enough time to finish. Next year will be a good year to walk too!

Because I live in South America, I need to store one small suitcase in Madrid while I walk. I'll be flying in there when I arrive and from there on my way to London. I checked the prices at the airport and they struck me as fairly high--in part, because I'll need storage for more than 15 days. I've been told that I may be able to stash my bag at a hotel or pension, and I'm happy to pay to do so. But I will only have one day in Madrid, and I don't want to be racing around begging hosteliers to store my luggage. the place I'm staying won't store it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've also taken to heart the recommendation not to tote one extra ounce, especially not on the North Coast Route.

Muchas gracias

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
You could take a chance and post it to yourself to the Central Madrid Correos from the place you are staying at. They'll keep it for you for at least 14 days.
The central post office is inside the Palacio de Comunicaciones, located in Cibeles Plaza.
Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM, and again from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

You can make a reservation in one hotel (or hostel) in Madrid for the day you depart. Ask if they can storage your pack. As you arrive Madrid go to that hotel, leave your pack and start your Camino.

May be you will have to call 2 or 3 hostels. By sure you can find one.

If you will not sleep that night in that hostel, simply ask for your pack and pay for the night. 20 to 30 euros to storage a pack for one month is not a bad deal.

Saludos y buen camino,

Juan
