Sundays compulsory rest?

I have heard from somewhere that Sundays are compulsory "rest days" on the pilgrimage.

Is this the case?

Dave - nothing is compulsory on the Camino - not even rest!

Most restaurants & stores are closed on Sundays, so make sure you stock up with food & water on Saturdays. If you want to walk, walk. If you want to take a rest day, take a rest day.

It is actually quite hard to take a rest day on the Camino Frances if you are staying in the cheaper albergues: mostly you can only stay one night unless you are injured or sick. But you can always take a 'short' day, which after a while, seems like a 'rest day'!
