Is it self service? Many in France are not.

Sounds like a good business opportunity that someone acted on.

I agree that it is a nice addition to the city but I would likely only be tempted to use it if Pilgrim House was closed or over-run with laundry requests. They always have performed quality service for me!

I used this laundromat. It was closer, and it was open!

I always thought a combination laundromat/bar would be a pretty good idea

I hear ya, @Jersey ! I'll share a guilty secret...

Pilgrim House staff are courteous as can be, warm, and sympathetic....and really excel at the laundry service.

That said...there is a very nice bar next door.

Where?: Less than 400 m SE of the Cathedral.

Plug the address into Google:

Rúa Nova, 19, 15705 Santiago de Compostela

What?:

A place to hang out with other pilgrims, process the pilgrimage experience.

Have some coffee, tea, cocoa and/or use the kitchen facility.

Shower down, rest up.

Get your clothes cleaned.

Meditate in the quiet room at the back while your clothes are being cleaned or read from the sharing library on hand.

Pop next door to the Rua Bella for a bite and a brew or some vino.

Enough?

The phenomenon is coming to Portugal, too, I have seen a couple in Lisbon just recently opened. And the great thing is that these places have machines that directly dispense the soap, so unlike when I was traveling in my youth, you don't have to worry about buying a little box of detergent.

And very conveniently the washing machine dispenses its own detergent when you start it up so you don't need to bring any. Pop over to the market to kill time while the machines are running.

Thanks for this info. I’ve added it to my favorites in Maps. I will definitely check out the Pilgrim House when I’m in Santiago this coming March.

Here is a photo of Plaza Cervantes. If going down hill towards the cathedral the street for the laundry and Albergue last stamp is to the left of the fountain
