Transportation from Oporto, Portugal to Leon

Hi everyone!

I'll start walking my first Camino this wednesday, Feb 8th! Since I don't have the time to do it from France, I'll start in Leon, stay for a couple of days in Compostela, and then go to Finisterra and Muxia.

Does anyone know if I have a direct transport from Oporto to Leon? I've been checking it and I can't find it. I can only find one train Oporto - Vigo, and then a train Vigo - Leon, but as the timetables are not compatible, I'll have to stay in Vigo one night, which I didn't want.

Probably it's not an easy question to answer...

I think there must be a quicker way, but I admit I can't exactly find one. 14 to 15 hours to get from Porto to Burgos, and then have to backtrack the 200 km from Burgos to Leon seems like torture. It's entirely possible that this Porto to Burgos bus will stop in Leon, since it seems to be right on the main route, but it would still be a long trip.

Another thing to investigate would be Porto to Vigo, and then Vigo to Leon. Vigo to Leon is about 5 hours on the bus. I have ridden the bus from Lisbon to Santiago, and I know that it stops in both Porto and Vigo. Those two cities are less than 200 kms apart, so it can't be that long of a trip. I believe there is some regulation that prevents you from getting on and off in the same country if you're on an international bus, but that wouldn't affect this trip.

I've found that it's very hard to do international bus searches, so I'd be interested in knowing how you found the Porto to Burgos information, falcon.

buen camino, Laurie

It is on the ALSA site under International. The bus goes through Madrid, but not Leon.

Hi Laurie!

Yep, it's seems like torture! :) And I've checked that and it doesn't stop in Leon. I think I'll go through Vigo, by train.

I could go to Compostela and then get the bus to Leon, but I don't want to get to Compostela before. I want to get there on foot and receive the amazing feeling of seeing the city for the first time, after such a long walk.

I found a portuguese company that does Porto - Burgos. Here it is the link. The bus you're looking for is on page 51:
