Travel to SJPP

Arriving at 6:30am Aug 21, Madrid airport. Using Rome2rio and other apps but can’t determine best way to travel to SJPP. Can I make Train and/or bus connections and do the trip in one day?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I suggest a bus from the airport to Pamplona, then a bus from the bus station to SJPdP. You should be able to do it in one day.

Use R2R for travel to Pamplona, then a different R2R search for Pamplona to SJPdP

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Alsa bus does the journey from Pamplona to Saint Jean Pied de Port daily (during the summer) at 10:00, 12:00, 14:30, and 17:30. You should book a ticket in advance, as August will be really busy.

Your best option from Madrid to Pamplona is the bus that leaves from outside the airport Terminal 4 at 10:45am (also Alsa). This will get you to Pamplona bus station at 15:35, in time for the 17:30 bus to SJPP.

With this option you avoid going into Madrid. However, if you wanted to spend a couple of hours in Madrid (you are arriving very early, after all!) you could catch the 11:35 train (from Madrid centre). The train's much quicker (you'd arrive in Pamplona 14:40), but this option might be more stressful as you'd need to navigate across the city and between bus/train stations, etc.

The bus line running from Pamplona to SJPDP is Conda. Use it's parent company's website, https://www.alsa.com/en , to book a ticket. To enter SJPDP as the destination do not use the abbreviation St. or the town will not be found. Spell it as Saint.
