Sometimes! Some computers are very old, predating USB technology. Getting a virus in return for downloading photos is always a danger. Computer security often is very poor.
If putting our camera onto a computer anywhere we lock the card first. It has a tiny 'slider' on one side. This enables us to view the photos and emil them, even edit if the computer has a suitable programme. Nothing however can be loaded onto the card so viruses are not a problem.
NB:- If anyone does this then don't forget to unlock the card before trying to use the camera again.
Some public computers will not allow cameras etc to be attached because of fear of virus infection, so even new computers may bar you. If there is no accessible computer in the albergue/hostal etc there are often free ones in the ayuntamientos, public libraries etc. in the towns. These can be very busy in the evening but less so during the late afternoon.
