Hi everyone,
I am in heart surgery recovery. It was open heart. Very taxing. I have walked four full Caminos and have done half of two others. I am normally very fit.
I was wondering if others have done Caminos after open heart surgery and how did it go? Thanks.

Hi Ray, I had open heart surgery but it was many years before I walked the Camino, I did have stents fitted some time before walking the first one (and even one fitted during one :)) and the only advise I can give you is to take it nice and easy, get clearance from your doctor and take plenty breaks. We are capable of doing much more than we think we can but don't because we get nervous about things, that was the case for me anyway.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and a not so speedy Camino :).
Buen Camino.

I did the camino four years after a quad bypass, no problems. Take it easy, get the okay from your doctors and what I do is take a couple weeks extra of my meds in case I misplace them (getting old and forgetful, sigh).

I'll be walking again beginning June 2nd after following my own advise about my doctors.

Slomo!?!?! I miss you dude. I think you're going to feel much better pretty suddenly and it will be WAY better. I'm on VdlP and seriously think about you every day.

Hi Ray, I am 8 weeks post-op open heart surgery for an Aortic valve replacement.
I walked 2 miles today pretty easily! Got a ways to go, but will walk another Camino , maybe in 2017. How many weeks post-op are you? PM me if you care to compare notes.
