Starting Camino Frances June 2015
I have found this blog to be of great resource and inspiration. We thank all of you for sharing your journey and wisdom.

We wanted to share with you that my husband Carlos and I, together with our sons Lucas 17, Andres 16 and Felipe 8, are embarking this June 12, 2015 on a quest to walk El Camino Francés starting in France in St. Jean Pied de Port and finish in Santiago de Compostela. I hope you follow us in our blog (link at bottom of letter)

We are walking together as a family, determined, even as we are unsure of our own ability to accomplish this journey. Our walk will have several objectives, one being to spend time with each other, and to create stronger family bonds. This is especially important now that our oldest will start his last year in high school and will leave soon for college. We want a memorable experience, one that will be hard to forget. Also we believe that to live life to the fullest one must commit to service. In discussing this with our kids, Lucas and Andres, they came up with the idea to raise money for El Campito Child Development Center in South Bend, Indiana, USA; a place where my kids volunteer and where my students work with families and co-write their stories as part of their coursework. El Campito was founded in 1970 to aid migrant families as they settled in South Bend. Today, 40 years later, it is the oldest non-profit bilingual child development center. Their programs demonstrate their commitment to create an inclusive community that embraces and celebrates children from all cultures and backgrounds, and they provide support to many families in many ways. For more information visit their website at http://www.elcampito.org/ El Campito has many needs but we want to focus and raise money for it’s after school recreation program. Kids, ages 5 and above, come to El Campito after school while their parents are working. They get help with their homework and play but they have no adequate recreational facilities and equipment except for the preschool playground. El Campito is in dire need of upgrading an old basketball court for these older kids, and they need to upgrade their other outdoor equipment.

We would like to invite you to join us through our blog and to help us in this journey with your prayers and a pledge per mile for El Campito. Your generosity will move us to overcome the pains and vicissitudes of the journey, but more importantly it will support a worthy cause and provide many kids with a safe and fun space to play. Your name and/or company’s name (unless otherwise instructed) will appear in our blog as a sponsor, and you will be honored once the renovations are completed. El Campito is a 501(c)3 and your donations are tax deductible.

I don't know your plans for fundraising but we just finished our Camino, which we did for as a fundraiser. We made large posters we put on our backpacks with information about the fundraiser and in our case, information about the disease we were trying to create awareness for. If you have time, I suggest you do this because it is a great way to tell people about our purpose. We also had small business cards with information to give to people. So many people were so open to learning about it. Honestly, the fundraising part wan't super successful but I think we did a great job creating awareness. You can see what we did at www.walkwithlewy.com
