Walking poles

We were amazed to see a young woman in the departure lounge carrying her folded poles. When we enquired she said that she had taken them through security with no problem. I made my way back to security and asked an English speaking guard if poles could be taken through and she said yes! When did this change?

The question is about departing from the airport of Santiago and only from Santiago airport.

Santiago airport had: for many years a very strict policy of no poles allowed in the cabin luggage; and a special arrangement with all airlines that passengers could check in their poles for free even when they had the cheapest of the cheap no-frills Ryanair tickets. It was only in 2023 that this policy had ended.

The question is now whether poles, possibly folded poles, are allowed in the cabin luggage in Santiago airport.

No other airports please, whether in the USA, in the UK, in other airports in Spain or elsewhere. This topic is fraught with conflicting opinions on this forum and basically off-limits.
