I'm planning to start walking from SJJP at the beginning of May. Can anyone advise me about how cold it will be? I don't want to carry unnecessary clothes like big jackets. Was hoping to take just a fleece and a raincoat. What do you think? Does the weather get warmer as you get further along towards Pamplona?
Thanks

Hi - it is impossible to predict the weather these days and you can check the long range weather forecast just before you go. I find these very accurate. Walking in May I'd expect good weather with it being warm during the day - increasingly so as the month goes on. If you have a wind/water proof ponjo or rain jecket and a fleece you can also put on a couple of other layers underneath if you feel cold.

Good luck

I start walking on the 27 April (can't wait) from SJJP and want to know whether I will be able to wear shorts for most of the way?

Hi marigold & jennysa
We left SJPP 17th April 2009. The mountains still had snow to trek through for some of the way. Nothing that good trekking boots couldn't handle. My wife and I took good fleece & rain jackets and found that sufficient throughout the camino (Used rain pants & poncho on a couple of occasions).
Regarding shorts, we wore light weight long sleeves & long pants (mainly for sun protection). However, I saw people of all ages wearing shorts at every stage, even across the top of the mountain.
Buen Camino
