which sleeping bag to take?

Hi, I start my first Camino next Wednesday Sept 25th in SJPDP. this forum has been a great source of information for me as most questions have been asked and the answers are here all ready. However my biggest problem is to take my lighter weight sleeping bag (40 degrees F) or the heavier one ( 25 degrees F). the heavier one really just takes up too much room in the pack and i would rather not bring it. Are there blankets available at the alberque in case the weather takes a drop, i'll be hiking until Nov. 3rd as I have the time to take and if im done sooner I want to head to Fisterra and Fatima and other travels. I have done a lot of tent camping in cold weather, but being indoors with lots of other people does it tend to stay warmer that I could get away with the lighter weigh bag? Or do you see this as a rookie mistake?

I would recommend the 40°F model and should you feel the need to be warmer put on some of your hiking clothes. You might consider a silk liner as well. Some albergues have blankets, others do not. Some Albergues are warm, others are not. Most of it comes to personal preference. I wouldn't necessarily plan on the convection of pilgrims in all dormitories to be sufficient.

In winter I just took 2 liners and it was fine for me, but that is me and is likely inappropriate for others.

I'd agree. The lighter bag plus a silk liner. You should be in good shape.

Thank you all, that was the way I was leaning but I feel a lot better a better now one less thing to stress about.

I walked CF in Sept/Oct of 2017 and took a 45 degree down bag and was very happy with my choice. In fact, my wife and I are starting CF a few days after you next week and we both have 45 degree down bags packed.

Take the lighter one. The other is overkill.

My wife and I used 40 degree bags during a winter walk and they were plenty warm except for one albergue where there was no heat at all, it was broke and we just added layers to sleep in and did ok.
