I walked the VDLP this autumn alone. Despite my Forum name I am a woman and am 66 years old. I was never afraid except for a worry about robbery on stage 1 ( now happily all is well because the perpetrators have been arrested). There was no problem with dogs. There are long lonely stretches but I never encountered any cause for fear. Do it! It is wonderful. However you need to be able to walk longish stages. In 2009 I walked the Camino Francès. Since then I have been thinking about walking back from Santiago to St. Jean PdP. But it seems to be very crowded. I would like to do the Via de la Plata instead. However my loving husband thinks it is safer on the Camino Francès. So I promised him to ask if experienced pilgrims on the VdlP can set his mind at ease. I would like to start from Sevilla 23 of 24 march 2014. My question: is it safe for a woman of 61 on the VdlP ?

He Theresa. CdlP is the camino from Sevilla to Santiago. I walked alone on the Camino Frances and that was feeling very good: many people and many albergues and hostals. buon camino.
Jozefien.

I think the "bulls" are actually steers. Rarely are bulls kept in groups. Steers are much more docile.

Hi Mary,I am walking the Camino the french way this year . Will be in SJDP on the 19th of may. I am a 55yo woman. I am hoping to meet some other pilgrims on the way to walk with. ANybody starting from SJDP on the 20th of May 2014
That unblinking gaze when their "eyes lock on your every move" is normal bovine behaviour. Docile milk cows would react in the same way.Yes, grayland, that's what I meant to say, steers as opposed to bulls. But whatever they are, for us city folk it is kind of a challenge to just keep marching on through the large groups, especially when their eyes lock on your every move.
I will definitely try your suggestion about waving the stick while walking. Thanks for that.
Hi Marilyn,Yes I will be starting out on the 25 April who else will be leaving around that time
Hi Angela well I do hope we can meet up along the way I too would not like to be the only one on that long road - well done on your 5th camino sure hope I get to do that many at least. I will be very excited just to get out of Sevilla at this stage - are you planning on going all the way to Santiago and what date do you think you will finishHi Marilyn,
I'll be leaving Seville on May 8th. I hope we get to meet up, I don't want to be the only pilgrim in the Albergue in the evenings. I'm 64 and doing my 5th Camino and grateful that I'm willing and able. I'll look out for you. Buen Camino
