Norte in april, advice and stories welcome!

I think the Albergue in Irun is opening on April 1st this year so that's where you'll want to go. See if you can get your credential mailed to you before you go. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you can get it in Irun. The albergue opens at 4:00 so you'll have a little time to wander around town...

What are your 'Must See' sites/places on the Del Norte?

The blowholes are just east of Llanes: https://goo.gl/maps/IjfoT http://www.flickr.com/photos/aubretia/8714910121/in/set-72157633436317310/

    Camino del norte

Just a suggestion: I stayed at Roger's House in San Sebastian. It's a hostel in the old part of town near all the pintxo bars. You can book ahead of time and it doesn't matter what time you get in. The albergue is close to Playa de la Concha but a bit removed from the old part of town. If I...

Camino del Norte - Self made guide

I read the same thing about Miraz but found two or three little bars between Baamonde and Miraz. Probably still a good idea to bring some dinner foods to the albergue in Miraz because they have a great kitchen.

    If you saw few pilgrims...?

I did the Norte in March/April 2013, some of it with Steeltown Pilgrim :) and other people here on the forum. Hi Tom!! Before my trip I was worried that I'd be sleeping in empty albergues. Fortunately that was not the case. Some albergues were filled almost to capacity, while others housed...

A few thoughts about half way through

I found it to be very helpful, though I always supplemented it with info from gronze.com and when possible, German friends with German guidebooks :)

    Miraz Albergue. 4pm opening

Simple solution: you arrived before 4pm and don't want to wait outside? Head right next door to the bar. The woman who runs it is lovely! I'm sad to say I forgot her name. Starts with a P I think......

    Northern Route in April-May 2014?

I started out in Irun on the 23 or 24th of March and was surprised to see so many other pilgrims at the albergue. As it turned out, most of my fellow pilgrims for the first week were only walking to Bilbao. Most had the time off work for Easter and wanted to arrive in Bilbao for the Good...

    Northern Route in April-May 2014?

I did this route in March-April of this year and I had no problem finding places to eat or sleep. Most albergues were open and there are always plenty of very cheap hotels to stay in. While in Gijon for example, I wanted to stay in the center of town so I paid 15 Euros for my own room with a...

    Need a little more help

Who is your cell phone provider? If it is AT&T and you've had your iPhone 4s for at least two years (minimum contract length) they will unlock it for you over the phone in a matter of minutes. If you have had it less than 2 years, they won't unlock it. I tried really hard to get them to...

    Need a little more help

Hey Bobbie, I had an unlocked iPhone 3g and it was a lifesaver. I read up on internet plans in Spain and decided on Movistar. I found a Movistar store right by my hotel in Madrid and was fortunate enough to be helped by a woman who spoke perfect English and was able to explain the pre-paid...

    Need a little more help

Hey Bobbie, I ended up staying in more pensions and one star hotels than I had originally planned. However, you can do about 90% of the trip in albergues if you'd like. The albergues in the first part of the trip are significantly more expensive than they are near the end (most of Asturias...

    Need a little more help

Bobbie - I would recommend reserving a bed at Roger's House in San Sebastian. It's a hostel in the old part of town. I think I paid 12 or 16 Euros per night for a bed, and you can't beat the location! I had friends who stayed in the albergue (which is located near the west end of Playa de la...
